Celebrating the Power of Song in Humboldt County

Since its formation in 2013, A Company of Voices (ACoV) has brought together a passionate group of professional and non-professional singers who share a love for diverse vocal music. Based in Humboldt County, the group is co-directed by Elisabeth Harrington and Stacy Young, who combine their collective singing experiences and appreciation for a wide range of musical styles to create eclectic and captivating choral performances.

A Rich and Eclectic Repertoire

ACoV’s broad repertoire spans a variety of genres, allowing the group to create dynamic and engaging performances that appeal to diverse audiences. Their musical selections range from the timeless beauty of Renaissance music to the spiritual depth of African-American spirituals, the complexity of contemporary classical compositions, and the joy of folk, jazz, and pop. This wide-ranging approach to choral music allows ACoV to offer unique concert experiences that reflect their love for musical variety.

Whether performing classic choral works, contemporary pieces, or beloved holiday music, ACoV’s diverse selection ensures that each concert is filled with energy, emotion, and artistic depth. Their ability to seamlessly blend traditional and modern styles has made them a beloved part of the Humboldt County music scene.

Local Performances and Community Engagement

A Company of Voices is proud to serve the local community, regularly offering concerts and performances that enrich the cultural life of Northern Humboldt County. Over the years, they have performed in many locations, including Redwood Acres, the Carson Mansion’s Ingomar Club, Masons Lodge, Baywood Country Club, on and around the Arcata Plaza. Their presence at local events such as the Fortuna Christmas Music Festival and the City of Eureka Employee Holiday Party has made them a cherished part of the area’s festive traditions.

One of the group’s favorite recent experiences was performing beside the tallest living Christmas tree for the Sequoia Zoo members' party, and singing on the Sequoia Skywalk for the City of Eureka Employee Holiday Party. These moments, along with their holiday music performances, have become a hallmark of ACoV’s community engagement.

Their ability to connect with local audiences, whether through intimate performances or large-scale events, has solidified ACoV’s place as one of Humboldt County's most beloved vocal ensembles.

Notable Performances and National Recognition

ACoV’s musical talent has garnered national attention, and the group is especially proud of their participation in the U.S. premiere performance of One World, a piece by Welsh composer Sir Karl Jenkins, at Carnegie Hall. This prestigious opportunity marks a major milestone in the group's journey, as they share their passion for choral music on an international stage.

In addition to this exciting event, ACoV had the honor of performing with the legendary Chieftains during their 2016 Center Arts concert. The group has also participated in a musical prayer breakfast as guest artists with the Arcata Interfaith Gospel Choir in 2017, showcasing their commitment to bringing their music to diverse audiences and fostering a spirit of community and collaboration.

A New Chapter: DreamMaker Project and Non-Profit Status

In August 2024, ACoV achieved a significant milestone by becoming a DreamMaker project of the Ink People and gaining non-profit status. This development opens up new possibilities for the group, providing a platform for fiscal growth and the opportunity to reach larger audiences in and around Humboldt Bay. With this newfound status, ACoV is poised to expand their impact and continue sharing their love for choral music with even more members of the community.

Looking Ahead: A Commitment to Growth and Connection

As ACoV continues to grow and evolve, they remain committed to their mission of bringing people together through the power of song. With a deep appreciation for the diversity of vocal music and a strong sense of community, ACoV is excited to embark on this next chapter of their musical journey. Whether through their unique concert experiences, participation in prestigious performances, or their dedication to local events, ACoV is poised to remain a vital and dynamic force in the Humboldt County music scene.
