After two years of studying the koto (a 13-stringed harp) and teaching English in Japan, Sarah McClimon returns to present an evening of music with Bay Area shakuhachi (bamboo flute) player Ron Nelson.
A graduate of Fortuna High School, Sara McClimon holds a degree in music education from St. Olaf College and licenses from the lkuta School of Koto. Ron Nelson has been playing the shakuhachi since1987 and performs reqularly with the taiko group Tatsu maki Taiko. He is the current president of the International Shakuhachi Society.
This duo will perform classical Japanese melodies, Zen meditation music, folk songs, and Western-style pieces. They'll also talk about the instruments and show photos of life in Japan.
