Chubritza International Folk Band

Chubritza brings us an evening of international music and songs with a Balkan and Eastern European emphasis.

Chubritza is the name of a Bulgarian table spice which is usually served as a mixture of savory, salt, and paprika. The name reflects the band's variety and mixture of musical tastes and textures. The music reflects many universal themes which all people share: the passion of being in love, the sorrow of lost love, and the happiness that music and dance bring to the heart.

The band members reflect a broad spectrum of experience and will be performing on traditional instruments of the different cultures as well as singing in the appropriate language. Chubritza members are: Randy Carrico, Deborah Dukes, Janet Finney, Joe Friedman, Craig Kurumada and Linnea Mandell.

The first half of the program will be a selection of music from Balkan and Klezmer traditions and in the second half the audience will be invited to learn a few simple circle dances from the leader. Come and enjoy!
