Franklin Stover
February 8, 2003

Franklin Stover will be presenting an exposé of music for two very rare woodwind instruments: the Hungarian tárogató and the octavin.

The music chosen for the program conforms to the period when each instrument was in wider use. For example, the octovin was invented in 1894 so music of that era was chosen. However, the octavin become popular in this country around 1915. Music for the tarogato originates with the Ferenc Rakoczy era in Hungary in the 1750s.

The other members of the ensemble will be Dana Christen, piano, and Michael McClimon, flugelhorn. All three performers are well-known to this area as they have performed together in the Humboldt Ragtime Band for more than ten years. This performance promises to be both delightful and informative.
