Chubritza International Folk Band
May 10, 2008
The Fortuna Concert Series is proud to bring back Chubritza, the popular ethnic dance band, playing traditional songs and dance music of the Balkan nations, Eastern Europe, and the United States. Formed in 1993 in Arcata, Chubritza takes its name from a Bulgarian table spice, reflecting the band's variety and mixture of international musical tastes and textures. The group is well-known locally for performances at folk dance events, weddings, cultural celebrations, and festivals.
Members of Chubritza reflect a broad spectrum of experience, including training in classical Western music, Balkan, Klezmer, Celtic, and international folk music styles. The performers are Randy Carrico, Deborah Dukes, Janet Finney, Craig Kurumada, Linnea Mandell, and Kroy Rubin. In addition to many traditional instruments such as accordion, saxophone, flute, violin, bass, and guitar, unusual instruments will include gajda, tupan, tarabuka, tamburitza, and tambura.
To begin a wonderful summer, come and enjoy this delightful group and experience the happiness music brings to the heart.
