Scotia Ragtime Band
Saturday, March 8, 2008

The Scotia Ragtime Band, directed by Michael McClimon, is just one of many small groups that come from within the ranks of the Scotia Band. The ragtime group was first formed in 1985, the year of the Scotia Band's fiftieth anniversary. Members of the 2008 Scotia Ragtime Band include Sharon Holt, flute and piccolo; Joyce Carter, clarinet and alto saxophone; Michelle Brown, clarinet and alto saxophone; Russell Shorey, cornet; Matt Beck, trumpet and flugel horn; Matthew Brown, trombone; Vicki Robertson, baritone horn; Barbara O'Neill, piano; Tom Merrill, tuba; Marty Nordlof, drums; Pat Foran, sound effects; and Richard Chase, sound effects.

The evening's program will be replete with unusual and familiar examples of the most popular American music of the ragtime era. After the intermission, the Band will play a live musical accompaniment (with sound effects) to a 25-minute silent film comedy classic from 1919. Bumping Into Broadway stars Harold Lloyd, Bebe Daniels and Snub Pollard. The band is fortunate to have Humboldt County's premier sound effects foleys, Patrick Foran and Richard Chase. When they are in the house, beware---your funny bone is sure to get "bonked!"

Concert time is 8:00 p.m. at the Fortuna Monday Club, 610 Main Street in Fortuna. Ticket prices are $8.00 General Admission and $6.00 Students and Seniors. Tickets available at: Green's Fortuna Pharmacy and Fortuna Music Mart in Fortuna, Becker's Insurance Agency in Ferndale, Berline's Cornucopia in Eureka and at the door.
