Benjamin and Shulamith Shapira
April 12, 2008
Renowned Israeli cellist, Benjamin Shapira, is the winner of numerous competitions and awards. As with other major artists of Israeli origins, Shapira's talent was recognized at a very early age. He was handpicked by Isaac Stern to join a small select group of protégé young artists at the Jerusalem Music Center, where he worked under many celebrated cellists, including Janos Starker, Leonard Rose and others.
Rumanian-born pianist Shulamith Shapira was merely sixteen when she graduated from the State Conservatory of Music in Bucharest under the supervision of legendary teacher Florica Musicescu, whose list of students included such world renowned artists as Dino Lipatti and others. Ms. Shapira is a very active chamber musician and recitalist in both Israel and the U.S. Among her recordings are numerous recitals recorded for the Israeli National Radio.
A mother-and-son duo, this remarkable ensemble is in great demand, performing frequently internationally as well as in Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, and others. Praised by the press, the Shapiras' recordings include radio performances on National Public Radio, Voice of America, Bavarian National Radio, Mexican National Radio, Voice of Israel, and more.
