Under the direction of Franklin Stover, Buster Keaton's The Cameraman (1928) will be accompanied by the live quartet Pastimers. Musicians include Allan Lesser-violin, Franklin Stover-clarinet, Jimmy Durchslag-trombone, and Dana Christen-piano. The Pastimers will provide a dramatically charged musical backdrop for Keaton's classic, made in the midst of the jazz age. Franklin Stover compiled authentic period music for each scene and created a score for this unique instrumental combination.
The Cameraman is considered to be one of Keaton's great accomplishments, and represents a major turning point in the life of the artist.
For the past several years, the quartet has performed at the Redwood Coast Jazz Festival in Eureka. The Pastimers last regaled the Concert Series audience in May of 2009.
