Slide

This group, playing both electric and acoustic instruments, will be presenting an evening of music with a heavy emphasis on vocal harmony. The band consists of three Humboldt County musicians that have chosen a name that comes from local history. Slide was an earlier name for the town of Fortuna and the group decided that an old name would be appropriate for a group doing music that includes music from the 1950's through the 1990's and well as original
music.

The members are:

Gloria Gold - Vocals and tenor guitar: Bor in Canada and raised in Oregon, Gloria started singing in school and became a professional musician at nineteen. She is known for her soulful voice. After her music career, Gloria taught both English and History and now teaches ukulele and voice.

Michael Gibbs - Vocals and piano: Mike has been singing locally for most of his life and has produced and recorded several of his own albums. He plays both piano and guitar and is known for his powerful voice. Mike performs at many community events.

Jay Byker - Vocals and guitar: Born in Minnesota and raised in Humboldt County, Jay retumed to teach at Fortuna High after a twenty five year absence. He currently teaches music part time at Pacific View Charter School and owns Redwood Music Mart. Jay played professionally for a great part of his life and primarily plays guitar and bass.
